Are there any readers out there who were around for the Florida Update?
I wrote a short note about this on my blog (see - "Google Dance" and History-Changing Updates). I interview SEO folks everyday, and very few have a clue as to what I'm talking about. I'd love to hear about your personal experience during this shaky period in search history! Have you ever been asked about this in an interview?

What do you use to assess a candidate's skills?
Resumes are somewhat generic documents that aren't typically tailored to a specific opportunity (especially *yours*). Most folks try to cram as much (or as little) experience onto a couple pieces of paper as they can. Then, they push that document out there to resume boards and hope to catch the perusing eye of a recruiter or employer. How do you dig deeper to determine if a candidate possesses the skills pertinent to your job opening? I utilize an Internet Marketing Skills Inventory document as a springboard to further discussion. It's a fairly short, compact survey that requires a prospect to give a self-reflection of their skillset according to strengths and weaknesses. It also asks them to elaborate on specific experience with relevant tools, platforms, etc.. This isn't a test. It just allows me to prepare beforehand a specific line of questioning based on their answers.

I think I've touched upon most aspects of "internet" marketing, but I'd really welcome your feedback if you have a moment to review.... IM Skills Inventory

This is a proprietary document that I ask you do not use without permission (just contact me, I'm flexible!). However, I'll grant limited use for all who simply purchase a featured upgrade on an $89 job posting. Additionally, if you're looking to hire an internet marketing resource, but don't personally possess a great deal of knowledge about the topic, I'm available to screen your candidates and provide you with my assessment.

Interviewing In-House SEO Candidates - With many in-house SEM teams ramping up, and in-house efforts in general growing, I thought it might be useful to scope out the basics for an SEO-centric interview. It's tough enough to find good talent these days, and those with experience are commanding higher and higher salaries, so many companies may be looking to those with fewer years of experience to fill critical in-house roles. Good article for employers as well as candidates preparing for an SEO interview. full article...
