KBTX Media operates the CBS and CW affiliates in Bryan-College Station, Texas, serving an 18-county area known as the Brazos Valley. For over 65 years, KBTX has been the ratings leader and dominant choice for local news and entertainment. Our team produces six newscasts each weekday, three each weekend, a breaking news digital channel, and a daily lifestyle show, totaling more than 40 hours of programming each week. KBTX is routinely recognized among the best in the state by organizations including the Associated Press, RTDNA, and the Lone Star EMMY Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In 2023, the station was honored to receive a National Edward R. Job Summary/Description:
KBTX News is excited to welcome a Digital Innovation Fellow to our newsroom. In this part-time role, you'll spend a year working alongside KBTX's national Murrow Award-winning digital team to create innovative, sustainable strategies for sharing local news with new and nontraditional audiences. You'll also craft digital and streaming projects designed to boost cross-platform viewership.
The ideal candidate will be an entry-level journalist with strong writing skills and experience creating news content across all digital platforms. They are an innovative self-starter who beats deadlines and the competition, handles pressure, and strives to be first and best with the story. The right candidate must have a passion for local news and excel at writing and creating content for all digital platforms.
The successful applicant will also have these attributes:
- An eye for future trends and a mind for innovation, with the ability to balance the need for practical newsroom applications
- Produce compelling content for all digital platforms, including the station website, streaming apps, news app, including video and push alerts
- Write accurate, grammatically correct, editorially sound AP-style news stories
- Respond quickly and efficiently to developing news; accurately report breaking news on digital and social platforms
- Create engaging content for social media platforms
- Strong understanding of SEO strategies
- Ability to collaborate with editors, reporters, producers, and other news staff to ensure the most accurate and updated information is reflected on the station's digital properties
- Uphold the station's high journalistic standards
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have:- Bachelor's Degree in Journalism or related field, or in the final year of a Bachelor's program
- Excellent writing and copy-editing abilities in adherence with AP Style guidelines
- Video editing skills
- Demonstrated video sourcing and production abilities
- Intimate familiarity with content management systems
- Demonstrated ability to adjust strategy and implementation based on evolving needs
- Ability to work with others to achieve a common goal
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to tailor content production to target specific distribution platforms, including social media
- Knowledge and understanding of the latest social media platforms and trends
- Schedule flexibility
