EMPLOYMENT TERMS:                  

Assistant Professor – 9-month, tenure track position                                                                

Instructor – 9-month, non-tenure position

PRIMARY DUTY: Teach undergraduate and graduate (tenure-track only) courses in the School of Health Science and Wellness that serve a diverse array of students and academic programs. Potential course assignments include Basic Biomechanics, Mechanical Analysis of Sport Skill, Exercise Testing and Prescription, or other health and exercise science coursework. Other duties assigned per department need and the candidate’s experience, with a preference for biomechanics expertise.


  1. Teach coursework as described above
  2. Advise undergraduate/graduate majors
  3. Supervise students in profession-based experiences (internships)
  4. Hold seven office hours per week
  5. Participate in Department service, including student organization assistance and sponsorship and supervise student research
  6. Participate in University service, including committee work
  7. Participate in scholarly research in academic field (tenure track position only)
  8. Perform other duties as assigned

WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical office environment and Human Performance Lab.             

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Graduate and undergraduate students involved in class or departmental projects, graduate and/or undergraduate research; students employed within the department 

EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS USED: Typical teaching tools in a classroom environment. Ability to utilize Microsoft Office software, document cameras, projectors, etc.             

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Typical office environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

SCHOOL: The School of Health Science and Wellness is a multidisciplinary program that consists of 22 health science and wellness-based Bachelor’s degree programs, 5 health science and wellness-based Master’s degree programs, 11 pre-professional programs and fourteen degree options for completing a minor.   Primarily, this position consists working with four discipline areas: Applied Health Sciences, Health and Physical Education, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Recreation. The School is committed to collaboration across departments and disciplines university-wide to provide the best experience for its students and is committed to its mission: “Lifespan Health and Active Living”. The School also offers minors in coaching, gerontology, health, recreation, food service, nutrition, and interdisciplinary minors in sport management, and sport psychology.

Education: Terminal degree for assistant professor/Masters for instructor, with at least one graduate degree in health, kinesiology, exercise science, or a related field. ABD will be considered        

Certification/License: CSCS or the ability to attain the CSCS certification within two years from initial contract date                        

Experience: Successful practical work experience with previous teaching experience preferred        

Skills: Positive interpersonal communication; organizational skills; a collaborative approach to work and classroom instruction; and general computer skills
