**Interested applicants should submit a resume, cover letter and two work samples to jobs@ncee.org with “Communications Specialist” in the subject line **.  Work samples should include one short writing sample and one visual content example such as a data visualization, social media post, report cover, or product offering postcard. 

Responsibilities:

Writing 

• Develop high-quality, original content across multiple formats including long and short form narratives, blog posts, stories of impact, op-eds, newsletter articles, thought pieces, and more.
• Translate complex ideas into clear, engaging narratives that make education research, policy, and practice accessible to diverse audiences, from educators to policymakers and the public. 
• Craft compelling storytelling campaigns by interviewing educators, policymakers, researchers, community members, and other stakeholders to highlight their experience and insights. Shape their voices into meaningful content that drives engagement and action. 
• Write with a strong narrative approach, ensuring each piece of content has a clear purpose, structure, and call to action.
• Edit and refine content for clarity, tone, and impact, ensuring all written materials align with the organization’s brand and messaging strategy.
• Develop audience-specific content strategies, tailoring tone, format, and messagingfor different platforms and readerships. 
• Collaborate with designers to integrate visuals and multimedia elements thatenhance written content and storytelling impact.
• Stay ahead of industry trends in education, media, and digital content to ensuremessaging remains relevant, innovative, and engaging.
• Be able to effectively integrate a variety of perspectives including research,policymaking, and education practitioner lenses.

Video & Multimedia Content Production (preferred, not required) 

• Develop and produce video content to complement written materials, including interviews, explainer videos, and social media clips. 
• Collaborate with the team to develop video content that enhances digital engagement and extends the reach of key messages. 
• Ensure all multimedia content aligns with the organization’s brand and storytelling goals.

General Communications

• Work across teams to produce compelling presentations, infographics, and marketing collateral that advance the organization’s mission and strengthen partner engagement. 
• Oversee the content strategy for the blog, including identifying guest contributors, curating and editing submissions, and guiding partners in content creation.
• Design and execute email marketing campaigns with compelling copy and visuals.
• Manage subscriber lists for targeted messaging and audience segmentation.
• Track, analyze, and report on engagement metrics to optimize campaign effectiveness.

Requirements

Skills & Qualifications

• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Creative thinker with the ability to generate innovative ideas for content and communication strategies.
• Ability to create clear, concise and compelling content tailored to various audiences across multiple formats.
• Experience in video production, including scripting and editing.
• Proficiency in digital tools such as WordPress, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, MailChimp, and video editing software.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
• A self starter– the ability to peer around corners and anticipate needs in a fast-paced environment.
• A creative thinker who is open to experimentation and learning from experience.
• A collaborative team player with a positive and solution-oriented mindset.
• Gracious and kind. 

Experience

5-7 years experience in the Communications field with preference given to those with a background in Education & Education Communications.
